- The History of Love by Nicole Krauss: Thanks, babelbabe. I wouldn't normally have looked at this book but I'm loving it.
- Empire Falls by Richard Russo: I saw this miniseries on HBO and enjoyed it. Since I usually like books better, I thought I'd read it.
- The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfied: I like a good ghost story, which amazon claims this is.
- Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis: This sounded interesting to me -- the tale of how our founding fathers fought about but eventually came to an agreement about the course of this country.
- On Beauty by Zadie Smith: I have White Teeth but haven't read it; I thought I might be better motivated with this book.
- Awake in the Dark by Shira Nayman: These are short stories about the children of Holocaust victims and participants.
- Renfield: Slave of Dracula by Barbara Hambly: Hambly has written vampire novels before and they were very good -- Traveling with the Dead and Those Who Hunt the Night -- but it's been a long time, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Reading for January
I've been in a book-buying mood and these are the books I have to read for January (and maybe February):
Zadie Smith has me intrigued, though I have yet to read her. She's on my list(s) though...
ReplyDeleteShe's been on mine for several years but I haven't read her yet. I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteI bought White Teeth and I just couldn't get through it. I wanted to, but couldn't. Let me know how you like On Beauty.
ReplyDeletei really liked "a history of love". the "awake in the dark" book sounds good, too.
ReplyDelete"Empire Falls" is one of my all-time favorite novels, as is Russo's "Nobody's Fool".
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the miniseries, mostly because I know it won't live up to my expectations. I did watch the movie version of "Nobody's Fool" after reading the book, though, and loved it.
I've never read Russo before but I really liked the Empire Falls miniseries so I'm looking forward to this book.
ReplyDeleteI like Russo too. Straight man is my favourite - very funny.
ReplyDeletelove love LOVE Russo. Nobody's Fool, Risk Pool, and Mohawk are fabulous books. Empire Falls was good but not as good as the others, I will look forward to hearing what you think.
ReplyDeleteAlso, 13th Tale, which I loved.
Glad you liked History...I just picked up Krauss' other novel, Man Walks into a Room. and did you know 1)Crocodile Street is a real book? and 2)Krauss is married to jonathan safran foer?
I had no idea -- about either of those things. Let me know what you think of Man Walks Into a Room -- I like the title.
