Battlestar Galactica (the SciFi version, not the old one) is rapidly becoming my favorite show ever. Adama's rescue of the humans on New Caprica was totally cool, and I'm not one to notice special effects that much unless they are really bad. Using his FTL drive like that to jump in and out of places on the planet was amazing. Yes, it tore up Galactica but it provided those watchers who love special effects with a "wow!" moment that was completely worth the watching. The simpler human drama was also well-written and well-acted. I'm annoyed with the writers for making me find enough sympathy for Ellen Tigh in my soul that I almost cried at her death -- suddenly I saw how vulnerable she could be and how much she needed Saul Tigh, no matter how badly she treated him. I didn't want to see that. When the survivors got back to Galactica, the victory they had experienced over the Cylons was bittersweet. Kara Thrace's discovery of who Casey really is brought me as close to tears as any show or movie ever has. And the look on Tigh's face as the survivors' lifted Adama to their shoulders while chanting, "Adama, Adama, Adama" was heartbreaking. Adama was the only one to acknowledge that Tigh was the man who held this group of humans together long enough for them to be rescued by the Galactica. To the rest of the survivors and to the Galactica crew, Adama was the hero while Tigh was simply ignored. I don't like Tigh --he's too tightly wound and occasionally far too ruthless for me -- but those people wouldn't have been there if it hadn't been for him.
Friday (Late) Shuffle- My Man: Billie Holiday from Golden Legends -- I bought this for Strange Fruit but the rest of it is worth listening to as well.

- The Ties That Bind: Don Williams from Anthology -- this singer shows up a lot in my shuffles yet I only have the one album.
- With God on Our Side: Buddy Miller from Universal United House of Prayer
- Bob Wills is Still the King: Waylon Jennings from Dreaming My Dreams -- this is my "turn it up really loud and sing" while I'm in the car song -- especially when I'm traveling.
- Was I?: Madeleine Peyroux from Dreamland
- Billy: James Blunt from Back to Bedlam -- at least it's not You're Beautiful.
- Believe Me Natalie: The Killers from Hot Fuss
- Lion's Jaws: Neko Case from Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
- 1913 Massacre: Arlo Guthrie from Hobo's Lullaby -- I bought this for The City of New Orleans but Arlo's version of dad Woody's 1913 Massacre is equally touching and sad.

Oh ack! I wish I'd realized that you were going to give Battlestar Galactica spoilers before I read too far. We don't get the new season for a few months yet.

Seriously, I'm not a big fan of sci-fi stuff but BG is way beyond that. Love the characters and love the plot lines. I watched one episode and I was hooked.
And honestly, I'm surprised at how much I'm digging Babylon 5 - you know I got that box set a couple months ago. B had seen it but I hadn't and now I'm at the end of season 2. Really, I'm shocked at how much I'm enjoying it.
My husband loves Babylon 5 -- I wish they weren't so expensive or I'd buy them for him. I never see them on sale. For some reason, most sci-fi shows tend to be more expensive than other shows -- all my seasons of Buffy and Angel weren't nearly as expensive as B5 would be.
