Children's books

For some reason, I've been reading children's books lately -- some of the ones my daughter has to read for summer reading before she starts sixth grade. I just finished A Wrinkle in Time and Bridge to Terabithia. BtT was very sad but very good. I got all wrapped up in the story of Jess and Leslie and was transported back to the 5th grade. I hadn't read this Newberry award winner because it was published in 1978 when I was in college and not reading this type of book. Next, after the new Harry Potter, I will be reading Old Yeller; I've seen the movie so I know the basic story, but I've never read the book. My daughter's school reading list is introducing me to all kinds of interesting reading.

I *love* Bridge to Terabithia.

And whnever I am in need of reading "comfort food," I resort to children's books - Anne of Green Gables and Emily, or Roller Skates (my absolute favorite) or Wind in the Willows - you get the idea. Plus, I am reading or rereading all sorts of good children's lit with my four-year-old. It's fun to rediscover Paddington and Winnie, etc.

I read BtT once as a kid and once as an adult and loved it even more as an adult. Wrinkle in Time is another one that hit me even harder when I read it recently. Another one that I missed for the same reasons you did was Walk Two Moons, and I got on a big Sharon Creech kick after I read it recently.

I love Bridge to Terabithia, too. I read it as an adult in my Children's Literacy class. After I read it, I bought a copy for Ab but she hasn't read it yet. When she says..."I wish I had a good book to read." I tell her that she does. I love children's books.
