Interview

Dixie had this on her blog and I thought it was interesting. Here's how it works:

1. If you want to participate, leave a comment below saying "interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions -- each person's will be different.
3. You will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Here are the questions I got from Dixie and my answers:

1. What children's book could you read and enjoy today? Oddly enough, I just finished A Wrinkle in Time -- it was good. One of my favorite books when I was a kid was Island of the Blue Dolphins -- I think I would still like it today because the girl was not only surrounded by all that water but she had adventures as well. I also related to her loneliness and self-sufficiency.

2. You're going to be in an isolation chamber for one year. You can have either an endless supply of CDs or an endless supply of books. Which do you take? Dix: this is an evil question! How do I decide? I think I'd opt for the endless supply of books because I can read books over and over and often not remember critical plot points or the ending, so it's like a new book for me -- even if it's not.

3. What do you believe is the most important mechanical invention in the last 1000 years? The most important mechanical invention in the last 1000 years, to me anyway, is the computer -- all my favorites spin off from it + it's really made the world much smaller -- we know things now almost immediately that even 30 years ago would have taken hours to find out via tv news or newspapers.

4. You have to make a road trip from Mobile to Dallas in August - pick your travelmate: A hairy man with BO, a colicky baby, an old woman who must stop to pee every 25 minutes. I think I'd take the old woman who has to stop to pee every 25 minutes -- when I'm on long trips, I get thirsty, so I'm always getting something to drink anyway. I also once took 17 hours to get from Orlando to Columbia, SC, an 8 hour trip at best.

5. Which movie have you seen more than all others? I think it's a three-way tie between Beaches, Shaun of the Dead and Sleepless in Seattle. Even though I like other genres more than I like romantic comedies, I think the two here are funny and warm-hearted. Plus my daughter, A, who is 11, likes to watch them with me. And Shaun of the Dead is just hysterical -- it's the first movie I've laughed out loud at in a long time.
