When we’re in the water, we’re not in this world -- Gertrude Ederle -- U.S. Swimmer

Guess what I did today for the first time is over a year? That's right -- I jumped in something that looked very similar to this:

I'd forgotten how much I missed the water -- the way being immersed in it makes me feel. Since it's been over a year and I am extremely out of shape, I wasn't expecting much. Imagine my surprise to discover that I'd swum 700 yards by the end of my swim! I hope I'm not hurting tomorrow but even if I am, it'll be worth it. It's been several hours -- I went right before lunch and it's now evening -- and I still have that swimmer's high. I missed that too.

I love swimming and being in water. In 2003, I was in Hawaii visiting family for about three weeks. Got to swim everyday, in the ocean and in pools (often spending the morning or day in the ocean and hitting up a local pool in the evenings). Man, do I miss that!

Kristina: that would be heaven to me. I used to get asked a lot if I got bored swimming laps but I never do. There's a lot of change you can do + there's that swimmer's high that keeps you going.

LOVE to swim.

Lucky you!

bb: I felt lucky. I need to figure something else I like as well though because they are always closing the pool here because of thunderstorms.

I just realised I commented on you last post without commenting here too! I love swimming too - jut wish I could do more of it.

Sounds wonderful! Isn't it nice to do something good for yourself?

It really is, sari. I'm such a couch potato now but I didn't used to be and this was just amazing to me. I'd forgotten how good it felt.

I suppose I'm lucky that I live so close to Lake Erie, so I can have beach time in the summer. But I just dig the ocean so much. Always wished I could have my own pool, too! That would be heaven. Maybe someday I'll get a pass somewhere, so I could swim during the winter...

try yoga. I LOVE yoga - it gives you that same tired, stretch-out feeling swimming does.
