Book meme

I had to do this book meme -- it's just too much fun.

  1. A book that changed your life. This one's hard for me -- as many books as I've read, I can't think of a single one that's actually changed my life. Maybe the DSM-IV, because when I read the symptoms of depression in it, I realized I had every single one and should indeed be taking the medicine my doctor prescribed.
  2. A book you've read more than once: Many of Stephen King's books, all the Harry Potter books, The Lord of the Rings, The Prince of Tides, Andre Norton's Star Man's Son (also known as Daybreak 2250 A.D.) -- there are just so many -- too many to list.
  3. A book you'd want on a desert island. I'm going with Suse and Babelbabe on this one -- the complete works of Shakespeare. It's a brilliant idea.
  4. A book that made you giddy: Christopher Moore's Bloodsucking Fiends.
  5. A book that you wish had been written. The book from Poppy's blog. In the Sandman graphic novels by Neil Gaiman, there is a library in Dream's palace filled with books that haven't been written -- I loved that conceit.
  6. A book that wracked you with sobs: Bridge to Terabithia and Anderson Cooper's Dispatches from the Edge -- the sections about Katrina.
  7. A book you wish had never been written: I would say Sex and the City but I liked the show that came from that dismal book, so I'll go with 4 Blondes -- that book was a total waste of my time.
  8. A book you are currently reading: Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama and The Storm by Ivor Van Heerden and Mike Bryan.
  9. A book you've been meaning to read: I'm like Babelbabe -- there are shelves of books I've been meaning to read. I suppose Middlemarch is the one I should really read first.

I agree on the Stephen King and Harry Potter books, I could read them over and over again!

Also, I completely agree on #7 - man, I want my brain cells back after reading that book. I never picked up another of her books. Does she have any other books? I don't even want to know.

Also, thanks for adding me as a link! :-)

She's had two since 4 Blondes! Trading Up and Lipstick Jungle -- I won't be reading them.

I have to find the link but there's a website cataloging all the fictional books written. I thought that was the coolest idea!

here is a site describing the invisible catalog, but the actual site appears to be down right now.

The invisible library is still down -- a shame -- I'd love to look at it.

I forgot to say I also liked Bloodsucking Fiends...but I read A Dirty Job before B.F., which I actually liked a lot better! It does have the vampires in it here and there as well.

I saw/heard Candace Bushnell do a reading of one of her books (so totally forgettable I can't remember the name of it). She was so vapid and shallow and embarrassing. Urgh.
Do read Middlemarch, it's worth it. (I seem to be going around blogs and inserting this comment fairly regularly).
I haven't been able to get into Summerland either.
