"... a single man in possession of a good fortune,

. . . must be in want of a wife." My God, y'all! Why didn't someone tell me Jane Austen was hysterically funny?! I'd read Northanger Abbey and thought it was hysterical, but I also thought that was an aberration. I've always said that I prefer to get my Austen from the movies. I was so wrong. Pride and Prejudice is the funniest book I've read in a long time. I've started it many times before in years past but must have been humor-impaired. Not only is Elizabeth Bennett an intelligent heroine but she has a dry wit and a sense of sarcasm that gels with my own and makes me laugh. She is also (for a character written in the 1700s) a woman I'm able to empathize with and relate to.

My Color Green

You Are Emerald Green

Deep and mysterious, it often seems like no one truly gets you.
Inside, you are very emotional and moody - though you don't let it show.
People usually have a strong reaction to you... profound love or deep hate.
But you can even get those who hate you to come around. There's something naturally harmonious about you.

Yay! "Pride and Prejudice" is wonderful! You say you've seen the movie - have you seen the BBC version starring (sigh) Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy? If you haven't run don't walk to find it!

I loved that series but somehow it never persuaded me that I should read the book. And Colin Firth was just wonderful as Mr. Darcy.

I love Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. I haven't read any of Jane Austen's books, how embarrassing is that? Thanks, now I will.

I love P&P. I also love Persuasion, and there is another BBC for that book which is wonderful.

Glad to see you back!

Katya...I didn't know your email address so I sent you a PM the other day on the Hammock in regards to a little school research. If you can help me out I'd be forever grateful! :)

Katya - I guess it's not BBC, but I looked it up on Amazon - here is the link:
