Friendly Differences and a shuffle

I thought this was interesting because sometimes our differences from our friends can be illuminating. This is from Hilda:

  • Name a CD you own that none of your friends do - I have a weird, eclectic collection but the one cd I own that my friends don't is Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP
  • Name a book you own that none of your friends do - La Vendee by Anthony Trollope. Not a good Trollope novel but part of my thesis was about it.
  • Name a movie you own on DVD/VHS/whatever that none of your friends do - Starship Troopers. I recognize that this is a bad movie but I still like it anyway.
  • Name a tourist attraction in the US that you have visited that none of your friends have - the Vulcan statue in Birmingham, Alabama

I have starship troopers. Have a good weekend. My Mandy is thinking about becoming a librarian. Do you have any wisdom or advice? Would you do it all over again?

Yes -- I would do it all over again. I like being a librarian. If Mandy considers it, tell her it would be good to go to a school where she can be in the master's program in Library Science and the master's program in another field as well. For example, the University of South Carolina lets you double major in English and Library Science. That way she'd have the two degrees that a lot of jobs now want you to have, especially if she works in an academic library.

I love Black Cadillac.

How do you like the new White Stripes? I have it but haven't listened to the whole thing yet.

I really like Icky Thump. Especially the rag and bone song. It's a throwback to earlier White Stripes in a way but it's also more polished.

During my travels to Melbourne last week I visited a great book and music store, Readings (I read their monthly newsletter online www.readings.com.au) and saw a new album that is nearing release - Raising Sand by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant! It got a great review from them and I nearly jumped out of my skin - I can't wait to hear it. Have you heard anything bout it?

I have it! I really like it and think you probably will too.
